If the body is unable to produce sufficient insulin the body suffers from 'hyperglycemia'.

Warning Signs of Diabetes

Following are signs and symptoms that indicate diabetes may have set in:

  • Unusual thirst
  • Tingling or numbness in the hands or feet
  • Vision getting blurred
  • Fatigue and lack of energy
  • Frequent urination
  • Weight change (gain or loss)
  • Frequent or recurring infections
  • Cuts and bruises that are slow to heal
  • Trouble getting or maintaining an erection

    If you suspect that you have diabetes, get your blood tested.

    What are the results of Diabetes?

    Over time, diabetes can lead to blindness, kidney failure, and nerve damage. These types of damage are the result of damage to small vessels, referred to as microvascular disease.

    Diabetes is also an important factor in accelerating the hardening and narrowing of the arteries (atherosclerosis), leading to strokes, coronary heart disease, and other large blood vessel diseases. This is referred to as macrovascular disease.

    Take 5-25 grams with each meal or up to 90 grams once a day. Do not take more than 100 grams as it will cause an upset stomach and make a person nauseated. Fenugreek cannot be taken at the same time as other medicines. You must wait at least one hour and preferably two before taking fenugreek. Diarrhea and gas are common side effects of fenugreek.

    Cinnamon: Cinnamon has long been reported as a good source for the treatment of diabetes, due to a study done in 2003. 60 people were tested in the group and one third of the group was given a placebo. The end results were very impressive and the overall health of the group was increased with glucose down 18 percent; LDL cholesterol and triglycerides were also reduced.

    Bitter Gourd: Momordica charantia which known as 'Karela' in India is commonly used as an antidiabetic and antihyperglycemic agent in all Asian countries. Extracts of fruit pulp, seed, leaves and whole plant was shown to have hypoglycemic effect. Polypeptide p, isolated from fruit, seeds and tissues of Karela showed goog hypoglycemic effect when administered subcutaneously humans.

    Additional curative value of Karela is:-

    Garlic: To control diabetes eat raw onions and garlic. It controls abnormally high blood sugar levels in diabetics. There are more than 20 substances in garlic oil that help in diabetics. Not only sugar level control the compounds in garlic lower blood pressure help in preventing platelets in the blood from becoming too sticky.

    Onions: As in Garlic, the Sulphur compounds also exist in onions and have similar curative properties.

    Jamun Fruit: Jamun is very good for diabetics because of itís low glycaemic index. It keeps your blood sugar level in check and also prevents common diabetes symptoms like frequent thirst and urination from appearing.

    Aloe Vera: This is a very common plant grown in most households. It has a variety of uses for the good of human body, mainly as a cosmetic. It also has hypoglycemic characteristics thus controls diabetes. It reduces sugar levels, is anti-inflammatory and promotes wound healing. You can take it with buttermilk to suppress its unpleasant taste.

    Ginger: Its potential to alleviate suffering from diabetes is great. It is safe, affordable, accessible and, according to a growing body of clinical research, an excellent therapeutic plant for diabetes.
